Classical pianist Xiayin Wang to make Hawaii debut
By Dan Padilla, Examiner.com (11/13/09)

Classical pianist Xiayin Wang will be making her Hawaii debut with a series of recitals on Oahu, Kauai, and the Big Island this November 16, 18 and 21. Ms.Wang is promoting her new CD “Scriabin Piano Music” -- a Naxos release that appeared on Billboard’s classical album chart earlier this year.

While “talented young pianists” are a dime-a-dozen in the world of classical music, Xiayin Wang is proving to audiences and critics alike that she is a genuine artist with a bright future. With effortless technique at the keyboard, Ms. Wang draws a tone from the piano that is marked with power and depth. At the same time, she has the uncanny ability to spin seemingly melodies on a current of rhythmic and harmonic drive.

As recitalist, chamber musician, and orchestral soloist, Ms. Wang has already achieved a high level of recognition for her commanding performances. Writes Steve Smith of the New York Times:

Even for the most gifted young pianist, it takes a lot to be noticed. . . Xiayin Wang is clearly doing something right. Ms. Wang’s recital at Zankel Hall on Monday night offered plenty of evidence for her success. Bach’s Violin Chaconne in D minor, as arranged for piano by Busoni, served as her calling card. It neatly illustrated two of her principal strengths: an estimable grasp of pianistic color and an ability to maintain and illuminate a strand of melody within the thickest of textures.

Ms. Wang began playing the piano at the age of five. After completing her studies at the Shanghai Conservatory, she came to New York to study at the Manhattan School of Music where she earned Bachelor’s Master’s and Professional Studies diplomas. Ms. Wang is a Steinway Artist. To learn more visit her online at www.xiayinwangpiano.com
